Lead author to the SCOPE Rapid Assessment Project on the Benefits of Soil Carbon

Dr. Peter Grathwohl is professor for hydrogeochemistry and head of the hydrogeochemistry labs at the Center of Applied Geology, University of Tübingen, Germany. He earned the diploma (1985) and a Ph.D. (1988) in Geology from the University of Tübingen. After a Post-Doc scholarship at Stanford University, Department of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering & Science  he worked as a research associate and since 1996 as professor of Hydrogeochemistry in Tübignen. Research focus is in the field of groundwater remediation and risk assessment. Current research topics include diffusion and sorption processes of hydrophobic organic contaminants in soils and sediments (incl. mineral liners and synthetic materials), accumulation of contaminants in soils, monitoring techniques, application of surfactants for removal of non aqueous phase liquids as well as development of laboratory tests and models for groundwater risk assessment. In cooperation with consulting companies he is also involved in field work on groundwater remediation.
