Dr Boaz S. Waswa holds a PhD in Agriculture from the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, Germany. His doctoral dissertation focused on assessing land degradation patterns in Kenya. He also holds a masters degree in Environmental Studies (Agroforestry and Rural Development) from Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya where he focused on assessing soil organic matter dynamics under different agroforestry systems in Kenya.

Dr Waswa has wide experience in integrated soil fertility management research having worked in various positions for the African Network (AfNet) of the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility (TSBF-CIAT) and the Soil Health Program (SHP) of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) between 2004 and 2009. Currently, he is a Program Coordinator of CIAT Africa, Nairobi, Kenya.

Dr Waswa has published 8 papers in refereed journals, contributed to and edited 8 books and 17 book chapters and several conference papers. He is a recipient of the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) Scholars Award (2010).
